What does wetsuit thickness mean?Updated 20 days ago
Wetsuit thickness (in mm) indicates thermal insulation:
- Thicker = warmer, less flexible
- Expressed as e.g. 4/3 mm:
- First number = torso
- Second = limbs
Quick guide:
- 2mm or less → Warm water / summer (>17°C)
- 3/2mm → Spring / autumn
- 4/3mm → Winter / cold water
- 5/4mm or 6/5mm → Very cold conditions
For best performance, your wetsuit should fit snugly to prevent water entry.
