What does wetsuit thickness mean?Updated 20 days ago

Wetsuit thickness (in mm) indicates thermal insulation:

  • Thicker = warmer, less flexible
  • Expressed as e.g. 4/3 mm:
    • First number = torso
    • Second = limbs

Quick guide:

  • 2mm or less → Warm water / summer (>17°C)
  • 3/2mm → Spring / autumn
  • 4/3mm → Winter / cold water
  • 5/4mm or 6/5mm → Very cold conditions

For best performance, your wetsuit should fit snugly to prevent water entry.
